Matcha Reviews in Glasgow: Black Sheep

Black Sheep

Black Sheep Coffee is a UK based coffee chain that has gained recent traction specifically for its inclusion of matcha beverages this summer. The launch of these beverages included:
  • Vanilla Matcha Latte
  • Blueberry Matcha Latte
  • Strawberries and Cream Matcha Latte
  • Passion fruit CBD Matcha Latte

For all us Glasgow-based matcha lovers, we were particularly excited to see a blueberry matcha on the menu. We currently don’t have any Blank Street locations here, so we haven’t been able to try their ‘viral’ blueberry matcha, despite it being dangled in front of us like a carrot on a stick by all the Londoners down south recently. I personally thought it was quite impressive to see such a diverse range of flavours on a menu for a chain coffee shop, as I feel nowadays most chains opt for a simple vanilla matcha latte to add to their menu and call it a day. This is one of the many reasons why I appreciate Black Sheep’s matcha, despite it not being from a local cafe. Another reason is the matcha powder that the company uses. Black Sheep, similar again to Blank Street, uses matcha from the brand ‘PerfectTed’ in each drink, which just so happens to also be my favourite matcha powder at the moment. I feel that the PerfectTed matcha powder is one of the best on the market as it has a beautifully vibrant green colour with absolutely no bitterness whatsoever.

Onto the matcha in question, I, of course, opt for a blueberry matcha each time I visit a Black Sheep location and I have to be honest, it truly never disappoints. The blueberry syrup is a perfect balance of sweet without tasting artificial and fake, and the oat milk, which comes with as standard with the beverage, complements the earthy notes of the drink. These two elements blend with the matcha to create a light and subtle drink that feels both refreshing and satisfying. The matcha itself is always easily identifiable within the drink, which can sometimes prove difficult when being paired with such prominent flavours as blueberry and oat. My only small disappointment is at the fact that the matcha is pre-mixed into what could be described as a ‘concentrate,’ which they keep in bottles in their fridges. So, if your enjoyment of matcha depends heavily on the quality of preparation and the traditional whisking process, this may not be the place for you (however, check out my Godshot Studio Review for a matcha experience that is more focused on traditional preparation).

In addition to the high quality of each matcha beverage, Black Sheep is also a perfect place for students, as   they currently offer Unidays codes for 20% off the whole menu and £2 beverages on a Monday, making it the cheapest place to get matcha in the whole city. With a cosy atmosphere and wireless charging available, I highly recommend that students make use of this offer each Monday to fuel their study sessions!

Overall, Black Sheep is a great spot for matcha lovers, offering high-quality beverages and an inviting atmosphere for both relaxation and study. Whether you're after the perfect matcha latte or looking for a cozy spot to get some work done, Black Sheep has you covered. With unbeatable student deals, it’s a must-visit for anyone in the city looking to enjoy great matcha without breaking the bank. So, if you’re a student in need of a study spot or simply a matcha enthusiast eager to try something new, be sure to make your way to Black Sheep, another great addition to my list of the best matcha lattes in Glasgow!
