Matcha Reviews in Glasgow: Godshot Studio

Godshot Studio

Godshot Studio is a cafe/studio in the Southside of Glasgow. It is very well-known within the matcha community and is said to be one of the best places to get good-quality, ceremonial grade matcha. They serve a very extensive menu which features a variety of unique matcha related drinks, including:
  • brown sugar matcha that includes taiwanese brown sugar, peach gum, milk, matcha and cold foam
  • mango coconut matcha that includes mango purée, coconut milk and matcha
  • lychee rose matcha that includes lychee, rose spritz, lychee pearls and matcha
The first time I visited Godshot Studio was in December of 2023. I had heard many raving reviews and could not ignore them any longer, so I dragged my matcha-hating boyfriend out and made him drive us all the way to the Southside to try it, adamant to find an answer to my search for the best matcha latte in Glasgow. Upon arrival the space itself was extremely pleasing to the eye, it is disimilar to any other “cafe” as it is better described as a studio which includes a small cafe at the back. Each item on the shelves is meticulously chosen and includes a number of high-end coffee and matcha tools. There is not much seating inside the studio, however do they have a small, outdoor seating area in the alley next to the shop.
I’m a sucker for a strawberry matcha, and when I saw it on the menu it was an easy choice. In terms of taste, the strawberry purée is delightfully tangy and sweet and makes for an excellent pairing for the earthy notes of the matcha, which, combined with the milk, is incredibly velvety and smooth. The creamy texture of the drink perfectly balances the bold flavours of the matcha while combining with the fresh purée to create a visually pleasing and enjoyable drink. Overall, I would rate this matcha an 8/10 as my only note would be that, due to the nature of the strawberry flavouring being a puree, occasionally there are large clumps of strawberries and seeds within the drink which disrupt its smooth texture. As someone who prefers a smoother matcha, this can make the experience slightly less enjoyable, however, if drinks with an uneven texture do not tend to bother you, then this is the perfect matcha latte for you.
